Easy DIY Fresh Boxwood Wreath with Gold Accents — FREE Fall Decor!
It’s finally feeling like fall around here, and we’re getting in the fall spirit by decorating… for FREE! I used clippings from my yard and leftover craft supplies to make this DIY gold boxwood wreath — and doesn’t it looks fabulous on our newly redone farmhouse door!
It’s not quite as fast as the one-hour pinecone wreath since we had to wait for the paint to try, but it still only took us about 2 hours total — not a bad time investment, and we even made our own super easy) wooden wreath form. Materials and Supplies for the Fresh Boxwood Wreath
- boxwood clippings (or you could buy faux sprigs here)
- small pruning clippers
- gold spray paint (the one I liked best was a bright metallic finish)
- spray paint handle (optional but amazing and worth the purchase!)
- wreath form — we used plywood and a jigsaw to make our own, but you could use cardboard, a grapevine wreath, a wire wreath
- wire — any gauge will work, you just want something that is easy to twist and bend with your hands as you assemble
- wreath hanger or hook
As you saw in the video, my boxwood bushes needed some love and trimming anyway (I’m a little behind on my fall cleanup…), so it was a great opportunity to trim them up a bit AND put the extra branches to use in a fun project for our house. Gotta love spending ZERO DOLLARS on fall decor that I can leave up from now until… well, until it wilts! (since I chose not to preserve it and just leave it green and fresh)
Since it’s just gold and greenery, this easy DIY boxwood wreath may just stay up until I make something new, and who knows when that will be… But it’s perfect for fall, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas for sure! Maybe I’ll get wreath-crafty again before Valentine’s Day.
If you don’t have a boxwood to trim from in your neighborhood (with permission, of course), then you know what they say — the best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago. The second best time is TODAY! You can purchase boxwoods at most nurseries or at someplace like Home Depot.
