Semi-Annual Seasonal Cleaning Checklist
It seems like there are always little things that need to be done throughout the house that I tend to forget.
I use our custom printable cleaning binder to keep track of daily, weekly, and even monthly chores, but…
Then there are those things that are supposed to be done but don’t hamper day to day life, so I don’t always remember that they should be done.
What Am I talking about? Well, for example:
- Changing the air filters
- Changing the Batteries on your smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors… things like that.
- Disposing properly of old medicines
- Reviewing and replacing items in a 72 hour emergency kits (don’t forget pet kits)
- Defrosting the freezer… (ha, ha, I only do this when I move, and no electricity can keep the frost on the shelves…)
- Sealing tile grout or stone and concrete countertops.
This list is getting almost comical.
This might as well be the list of things that I don’t EVER do, instead a list of seasonal things.
Okay the one thing I remember occasionally to do is change the air filters.
Because I can see the grime build up, and it starts to make me a little sick thinking about the dust and yucky microscopic mites in the air that is stuck and not filtering out.

So, I thought it would be really helpful to create a seasonal cleaning checklist for you my friends!

Making your seasonal cleaning plan
When should you do seasonal cleaning? These tasks are every 3-6 months so…
Think about an activity or event that happens naturally with the season changes, and organize your seasonal cleaning and prep activities around that.
For example, in my church we have two yearly conference weekends, the first weekend of October and the first weekend of April, 6 months apart, so I will plan on checking my list that weekend.
The first week of January is a natural time to reevaluate things, so for me the only one I will have to think about is July and I will probably tack it on to my 4th of July preparations!
So for me, this seasonal cleaning list will get done in January, April, July, and October — yours could be different.
I typically do spring cleaning throughout March since that’s when winter starts to thaw here, so this seasonal cleaning cleaning checklist will get tagged on at the end of the spring cleaning checklist.
A few seasonal cleaning helps to consider
*Stop buying cheap one month air filters.

*Consider the type of filter you are using.

*Create a place for storing partially used smoke detector batteries.
These batteries should be replaced every 6 months to be safe. So most likely they will still have some life in them.
Having a designated storage place for part-used means you know these batteries can be used in low-draw places vs. the fresh batteries that you want for your TV remote or a remote control car, for example.
Use the former smoke detector batteries in alarm clocks, or less life threatening back up items like toys (the kind of toys that you don’t mind that batteries dying quickly in!! ha, ha, you know the kind I am talking about right?).
