Lemon Mint Stove Top Potpourri

Lately I’ve been totally obsessed with simmering pots, not only they make any place smell amazing but they are also really beautiful and look amazing over any stovetop.

If you are not familiar with stove top potpourri, you are about to get your life completely changed (that’s how amazing they are!).

What’s stove top potpourri

A stove top potpourri, simmer potpourri or simmering pot is a mix of food ingredients placed inside a pot filled with water and simmering over a stove top for some hours.

It’s a natural way to fill any space with a delicious, bright and clean scent. It’s also a cheaper alternative to scented candles (while also being all natural). If you have made your own cleaning products then this is something you are going to love as well.

Another great thing about stove top potpourri is that they can help adding some moisture to the air. This is a especially awesome thing if you live somewhere dry.

What are some great stove top potpourri variations:

You can make your own simmering pot with pretty much anything you have laying around in your kitchen that smells nice. I like to switch the spices and fruits according to the season and usually grab inspiration from the scented candle section

A couple of crowd favorites are:

  • Apples
  • Lemon
  • Cinnamon
  • Rosemary
  • Thyme
  • Cloves
  • Star Anise
  • Ginger
  • Oranges
  • Lemons

You can also add essential oils, like we use in our homemade liquid dish soap recipe. Lemon essential oil and Purification essential oil are two great options.

Lemon mint stove top potpourri smells just like Spring!

What I love the most about this combination is that it’s super refreshing making it the perfect combo for Spring.

Usually after the long winter months the air inside the house can feel stale, dry and dusty. The combination of mint, lemon and ginger freshens it up in no time + the water from the simmer just adds all the moisture that you were lacking.

I like to make a large pot and simmer it while I’m doing some spring cleaning. It adds just the perfect little clean scent we all know and love.

How to keep simmer potpourri

You can refrigerate it for a couple of days. A pot will last for around 4 to 5 simmering sessions (depending on how long you make them) if you feel the scent is fading you can throw in a couple of lemon slices and an extra sprig or 2 of mint.
